Cars in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Officers stated they were contacted by a man who found a car in Hanau marked with reddish fluid

Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they added.

Police then found multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Officials report early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they commented.

City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for details.

A high-ranking official commented the incident left him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
